Westies
The West Highland White Terrier, commonly known as the Westie, is a breed of dog from Scotland with a distinctive white harsh coat with a somewhat soft white undercoat. It has a white double coat of fur which fills out the dog’s face, giving it a rounded appearance.
I remember when I worked as a dog handler assistant at dog shows, during my teen years, I was told that the Westie tails are strong and must have the shape of a carrot. I also remember how the head was being groomed, so attentively to create the perfect shape. The tiny pick ears came slightly out of that bunch of hard, yet, modelable hair.
I got to groom several westies, but only pet haircuts, anyway, I got a chance to get a little familiar with their temperament. They are funny balls of power.
My first Westie sculpture came many years later, it was one of my first subjects of study, back in 2013. Ever since that first one I created them almost every year, and each time I learned more and more about the breed and try to capture that on my sculptures and paintings or drawings.
Here you will find some of my Westie art created over the years.
