‘Cæsar and the sheep‘
The herding Standard Schnauzer
Several weeks ago I was contacted and asked if I could do a Standard Schnauzer from a picture; sure, I do that… But then I saw the pictures and I was immediately involved into one of the most exiting and funny projects this year.
Cæsar is a Standard Schnauzer salt & pepper and besides that he is super handsome and does very well at the conformation show ring he is what a Schnauzer should be: A Working Dog!
The more I saw Cæsar on the photos, running in the fields, herding with such a focus, I connected with him more and more, I tuned with all the Standards I owned and bred. Cæsar has ‘that something’, and I loved him since the very first photo I saw; not his show photos, where he looks immaculate, but those pics that showed the REAL dog in him.
This commission had two part, THE DOG, and THE SHEEP. I was hesitant about the second subject, not because I don’t like sheep, I love them, but this one should be running, and I fire my ceramics a very high temperature, and I had some troubles in the pat to make things stand when they go a bit out of balance. But I wanted that sheep running. This project was challenging and funny, but overall, I related with this subject so much that I had no option than going ahead!
Below are some photos of the process which I hope you will enjoy.

Working on the sheep… it was a very delicate step by step that took several days. The right clay helped to make this posture possible and give the hair the right texture.

Cæesar… It was fun to capture him on action, such an energy true Schnauzer is a pleasure to have as a model.
